Miracle in Mississippi
As the above Before-and-After photo reveals, our hearts and prayers went out over the weekend as we heard the news of the devastating tornado which hit the small rural town of Rolling Fork, Mississippi in the night.
I saw the town’s Mayor on TV saying, “There’s nothing left, the whole town is gone!”
Initial death toll was 26, with many missing and unaccounted for. But we all know how these things go; the death toll always rises over the coming days, double, triple, quadruple.
I shared with our congregation at Church Sunday how that I have observed over the years that tornados destroy an inordinate number of Churches! The hit and miss actions of tornados will leave houses on one side of a street intact, while completely destroying the houses on the other side of the street. And in many cases the tornado always sems to find the town’s Church and destroy it! I explained that the Bible tells us that satan used a tornado to destroy the house where all Jobs children were gatherd, killing all Job children. As it states:
Job 1:19 (NLT)
19Suddenly, a powerful wind swept in from the wilderness and hit the house on all sides. The house collapsed, and all your children are dead. I am the only one who escaped to tell you.”
Thus, in my opinion, many tornados are an attack of satan against Churches and God-fearing people in the Bible-Belt, which is where most tornados occur.
The reports came in that this tornado was an EF3 or EF4 with the base of the tornado being 1-mile wide! This monster tornado entered Mississippi from the western edge of the State and traveled 100-miles to the Northeastern part of the State devastating many towns; but Rolling Fork was hit the worst, the town was gone!
But then a miracle happened!
I saw a woman interviewed who told how upon hearing the sound of the tornado ran and jumped into her bathtub just seconds before the tornado hit her home, completely destroying her home, but she survived! Unknown to her, her husband and son had just arrived home and were sitting in their truck in the driveway when the tornado hit; their truck was spun around 180-degrees and wrecked into debris, but both her husband and son survived; they jumped out of the truck and began calling her name, “I’m in the bathtub she creid out; they had to dig through rubble to find her. The husband’s brother and sister-in-law lived in the house next door, which eas also destroyed, but they also both survived!
Then I heard her say, the only building in town which survived was their Church!
I saw the Church’s Pastor interviewed who shared that other than the steeple being blown off the roof, the Church was intact. But the greater miracle was that hundreds of people weren’t dead!
The bathtub woman shared that they gathered Sunday morning in the still standing Church and she said, “We had one of the most powerful worship Services we have ever had!”
Then this morning, another miracle—the death toll was revised DOWN to just 21 deaths!
Yes, there was indeed a Miracle in Mississippi!
